Baliem Valley Trekking

DAY 01. JAYAPURA ARRIVAL - FLY TO WAMENA
Upon arrival at Sentani Airport then catch Merpati 2nd flight to Wamena
at noon. After check in at hotel and then have lunch at local restaurant
in Wamena. You may visit villages around Wamena including traditional
market and back to hotel for relaxing before going for dinner. This is
only the first day to give you idea the Baliem Valley and its people look
like. O/N : at hotel in Wamena (L, D).
DAY 02. WAMENA – SOGOKMO - KURIMA - KILISE
After breakfast, accompanied also by your porters and cook will have 35
minutes drive to Sogokmo the starting point of the trekking. Heading to
Kurima, the Sub District of on level terrain then continue climbing the
Hasegem hill on the direction of Kilise, the destination village. Along
the trails you will meet local people in their activities and yet the
scenery is very beautiful around. Lunch served en route. In the afternoon
you may explore the traditional villages and learn about the locals way
of life. Dinner served by the cook. Overnight in local guest provided
by the chief in Kilise (Walk approx. 4 hours, B, L, D).
DAY 03. KILISE – SYOKOSIMO
After breakfast, you are proceed to descend the steep hill down to traditional
hanging bridge across Baliem River. Today’s walk is a little harder
with narrow and slippery paths. But you may enjoying the nature’s
beauty by stopping in the small waterfall to get refreshing while the
cook serving lunch. After this part, the path gets smaller and tricky
until you find another river with no bridge to cross. The village to stay
overnight called Syokosimo. Dinner served by the cook. Overnight in local
guest house in Syokosimo provided by the teacher. (Walk approx. 4,5 –
5 hours, B, L, D).
DAY 04. SYOKOSIMO – HITUGI
Today’s walk is the shortest one. After breakfast, you are proceed
to continue the trek to up to a village called Hitugi. Climbing up the
hill all the way to the village is something different, but the scenery
is incredibly beautiful combined with small villages and local people
working in the field. You arrive to the village by noon where the cook
is ready to serve lunch. Explore Hitugi Village in the afternoon and interacted
with the locals. Dinner served by the cook, overnight in Hitugi. (Walk
approx. 2,5 – 3 hours, B, L, D).
DAY 05. HITUGI – KURIMA – SOGOKMO – WAMENA
After breakfast leaving Hitugi back to Sogokmo. The walk today is the
longest one, but
The terrain is not very difficult as trails wider and the panorama is
so exciting. Passing Kurima Village before ending up in Sogokmo where
the car ready to take you back to Wamena. Lunch served en route. Dinner
at local restaurant in town. O/N at hotel in Wamena. (Walk approximately
5,5 – 6 hours, B, L, D).
DAY 06. WAMENA – JIWIKA – WAMENA
Breakfast at hotel, driving north to Jiwika, a village well - known with
its old smoked mummy. You may explore the traditional village around,
or climb the Mili Mountain where salt pool exists on top. Here you will
learn how the locals doing their traditional way to process salt. Lunch
served en route. At noon enjoy a local performance such as mocked war
and traditional Earth Oven Cooking. You may also be interacted with the
local Dani people and learn about their way of life. Back to Wamena late
in the afternoon and have dinner at the local restaurant in town. O/N
at hotel in Wamena (B. L. D).
DAY 07. WAMENA - JAYAPURA
After breakfast at hotel, leaving for Wamena Airport to get Merpati 1st
Flight to Jayapura. The flight takes about 50 minutes and at Sentani Airport
you will be picked up and checked in at Sentani Indah Hotel. You may have
a full day sightseeing tour including Mac Arthur 2nd Worl War Monument,
Sentani Lake and its small islands, museum, and Hamadi Market. Lunch served
at a restaurant by the lake. Back to hotel late in the afternoon. Dinner
and overnight at hotel. (B, L, D).
DAY 08. JAYAPURA – DEPARTURE
Leaving at hotel after breakfast for Sentani Airport. Depart on your destination.
End of Service (B).

note that at one of the villages visited in all the tours, the Dani Tribes
will perform traditional
ceremonies for you.
